Bowie was one of six site locations listed in the grant.
The Million Trees program aims to plant at least one million trees and restore the “tree canopy cover”, which is the area of land shaded by trees, in and around the Borderland.
The trees are native and or drought-tolerant trees that are made to withstand the climate of the region and will help reduce the heat island effect.
The grants are funded by community donations, membership programs, and grant writing.
The public is invited to join and learn more about the program, tree planting, and tree care.
